Donald Trump’s latest tweet comes after he said NFL owners should be punished if they didn’t suspend or fire players who protest during the national anthem.
The President said he would let the NFL know what he was thinking and that he had a plan to punish owners who don’t take the “necessary steps” to “keep our country safe.”
He did not name any owners.
The president also claimed NFL owners are paying too much attention to the political issues, and that there should be a boycott of the league.
“The NFL is owned by a group of people, which is very, very dishonest,” Trump said.
“I’m not going to say who that group is.
I don’t want to.
But I know it’s a group.”
Trump said the owners need to get “their act together.”
He said he is “going to tell them to get their act together and go to the owners, and if they don’t, I’m going to let them know exactly what my thoughts are.”
The President also said the NFL needs to do a better job of honoring its players during the anthem.
“If we don’t get our act together, the owners are going to get fined,” Trump told the crowd.
“We’re not going take the money.
We’re not taking the money.”
Trump added: “If you’re not doing your job, they’re not gonna let you do it.
And if you’re doing your work, they are going do what they have to do to keep you out of the game.”
He continued: “We have a problem with the NFL.
And I want to fix it.
I have a plan.”
