Apple is in talks with Chinese company Esix Sportswear about making its first mobile phone in the country, the company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Esix is an American mobile phone and accessory manufacturer that makes wireless earphones, headphones, earbuds, ear cushions, and other mobile accessories.
It sells to a wide range of Chinese mobile phone companies and retail partners, including Vivo and Huawei.
The company has a presence in China, though it is unclear if it plans for a presence there.
Apple, which has more than 30 million customers in China as of the end of the fourth quarter, has been trying to diversify its business.
In 2017, the Cupertino, California-based company said it would invest $2 billion to expand its operations in China.
